| Akumal is a small
beach-front tourist resort community 100 km (62 miles) south of Cancún,
between the towns of Playa del Carmen and Tulum in the state of Quintana
Roo, Mexico. Akumal means "place of the turtles" in the Mayan language.
The town was officially founded in 1958 as a community for scuba divers
by Pablo Bush Romero--a Mexican businessman, diver, writer, historian,
and archaeologist. The fine white sandy beaches at Akumal Bay and
Half Moon Bay are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Turtles can be found
in Akumal laying eggs on the beaches at night throughout the nesting season
(April to July) or swimming in the main Bay during the day. Hatching season
runs from September to November, coinciding with hurricane season. This
translates to big losses in the turtle population. Many environmental associations
are settled in the Akumal area, including the Akumal Ecological Center
(officially "Centro Ecologico Akumal" or CEA). Akumal is the site
of several Spanish galleon shipwrecks. One of the most notable stories
of the area is of Gonzalo Guerrero, a seaman from Palos who was shipwrecked
at Akumal and taken hostage and went on to marry a Mayan Princess and begin
the first "mestizoss" (Euro-Americans).

and diving right in front. Condominium is in top condition and has a fully
equipped kitchen and daily maid service. We have added a gym on the property
and wifi connection. Smoke-Free condominium has a large private patio
with hammock. Each bedroom has a king size bed and private terraces. Property
is walled for privacy and has two pools and is beautifully landscaped.
We have an ideal location at the end of Half Moon Bay in Akumal where the
road ends. We are set back 50 yards making our location both very private
and quiet. We have an excellent management team that is very responsive
to our renters. |

beautiful villa was designed by architect Jose' Luis Moreno and has been
featured in shelter magazines and periodicals. Completed in May of 1988,
it encompasses 4800 sq ft. in three levels and rests directly on scenic
Yal-Ku lagoon. Design concepts take full advantage of Caribbean breezes
providing excellent ventilation even in the warmest months. In addition
the home has ceiling fans in all rooms. The villa was built to accommodate
large families or groups. The floor plan includes four bedrooms and four
and one-half bathrooms. Two bedrooms have two double beds each. One bedroom
has two twin beds and a master suite on the top floor has a king bed. |

in a wonderful private jungle setting of landscaped gardens and mayan charm.
Each studio is a stand alone casita with queen bed, ensuite bathroom, air
conditioning, ceiling fans, and a kitchenette with everything you need
to prepare light meals. Each studio also has it's own private terrace looking
out over tropical gardens towards the swimming pool. Two of the studios
also have a single bed in addition to the queen bed. Great for an extra
child or adult. Villa Tortugas is 1 km far from Akumal beach * that is
one of the most peaceful and ancient sites along the Caribbean coast. Every
year hundreds of turtles comes to Akumal beaches to lay their eggs. That's
why Maya called this bay "Akumal" that means "the place of turtles".
